Remembering Shannon Marchant

In an unexpected and sudden turn of events, Shannon Elaine Marchant left this world on Sunday, March 24, 2024, while wintering in the Florida warmth that she so adored.  Her sudden passing casts a shadow over many communities and leaves a trail of cherished memories.  She is predeceased by her father George (Lyons) and mother, Jeanne (McCallum).  She is survived by her husband Wayne, children; Chris (Mandy) and Jen (Daryll), sister Laurie (Bob, predeceased), nieces Ashley (Lee), Emma (Will), Emily (Chris) and nephews Jacob (Sherri) and Frank.  She will be tremendously missed by her chosen grandchildren Logan and Reilly and her fur-grandchildren Hazel and Honey Bea.  Born in Owen Sound, her family moved to Barrie in 1975.  She met Wayne in the fall of 1976, and they married in July of 1977, with their children Chris and Jen arriving not long after.  Shannon had an enduring tenure in automotive sales and was still actively working as Fleet Sales Manager with Barrie Ford when she passed.

Shannon’s connection to the Huntington Society of Canada (HSC) and the “HD community” began when her son brought his partner; Mandy (Urbach) into the family fold.  Huntington’s Disease has been a part of Mandy’s life since discovering that her mother carried the gene and began experiencing symptoms, leading to Mandy becoming her caregiver (and ultimately requiring her placement in a long-term care facility).  Mandy has since discovered that she too, is HD gene positive.  She has relied on the supports and services provided by the HSC, as well as becoming a member (and now president) of the Toronto HSC Chapter.  Shannon had generously donated to the HSC and supported Mandy and Chris in each fundraising event and activity the HSC hosted, knowing the direct and meaningful impact they have in supporting those affected by this terrible disease and their drive to ultimately finding a cure.

Honour the memory of  Shannon Marchant a through a gift to the Huntington Society of Canada (HSC) in lieu of flowers. Family is at the heart of our community. Our families and volunteers tell a powerful story of caring people who pull together to improve the quality of life for Canadians impacted by Huntington disease. Thank you for your support.
