And the winner is……2017 Amaryllis Early Bird Contest

August 17, 2017
Betty Philip

Join us in extending our heartfelt congratulations to the winner of the 2017 Early Bird Contest, Jeanne, from South River, Ontario! By placing her amaryllis order by June 30th, Jeanne was entered into the Early Bird Draw and won a Kindle and Julie Lawson Timmer’s sensational book, Five Days Left.

Jeanne has been a longtime supporter of the Huntington disease community and has been a loyal supporter of the amaryllis campaign for a number of years. We caught up with Jeanne and inquired about the inspiration behind her involvement with the amaryllis campaign. Here are her words:

I have a threefold purpose being involved in the Amaryllis Campaign.

  1. Funding is essential for research and development of a cure for Huntington disease (HD)
  2. Awareness of this debilitating disease is not widely known
  3. The Huntington amaryllis is a most elegant reminder of hope

I have been purchasing boxes of bulbs to give to friends for a number of years. It gives me the opportunity to talk about Huntington disease and the need of support to find a cure for the disease that our family first learned about when my husband was diagnosed in 1996. It also serves as a memory of the support we received from the Huntington Society and our friends until his death in 2011.

As this bulb comes to life and begins to grow, reaching amazing heights before the beautiful flowers appear, it serves as a reminder that the search for a cure grows too. We look forward with hope for the results of the research to bloom for the cure.

Thank you Jeanne for sharing your amaryllis journey with us and for inspiring hope of a world free from Huntington disease.
