Partners for the Future
Creating a Family Fund has a two-fold benefit: it creates a lasting legacy with the Huntington Society of Canada (HSC), while providing financial stability for HSC’s mission to enrich the quality of life of those dealing with Huntington disease.
When you establish a Family Fund with HSC, you become a member of our Family of Fundholders. Your Family Fund helps provide HSC with a guarantee of support for crucial research, education and care services – now and for the future.
How Do I Establish a Family Fund?
A minimum contribution of $1,000 is required to establish and maintain a Family Fund. Funds can be pledged annually and directed immediately to HSC operations and programs like research, education and care to help families right away.
If specified beforehand, your contributions can accumulate in a lasting endowment set aside for the long term: Once the endowment reaches $10,000, at your discretion the income goes to HSC programs to help people and the principal is preserved in perpetuity and continues to grow with further contributions. This option helps to sustain HSC programs and allows us to plan ahead for the long term to serve families.
HSC staff are available to assist you consider your options about the type of fund suited to your needs, its purpose, the appropriate name and type of recognition, as well as the annual commitment and disbursement.

Sylvia Hickson Family Fund
“Our Family Fund is named after my wife Sylvia in recognition of her tremendous courage in her fight against HD. I admire her spirit, her strength and will, as her dance of life continues. Our hope is that our gift helps fund more research to find a cure.”
— John Hickson
Wright Family Fund in Memory of Helen-Mary Wright
“The Wright Family decided to combine our donations in a family fund to honour our mother. We feel that this is a tremendous way to support the break-through research being sponsored by the Huntington Society of Canada. The focus on research illustrates our focus on hope: hope that this disease will not touch the next generation of our family.”
— The Wright Family
Sterling Family Fund
“Finding a cure, that’s my passion. At first, $5,000 seemed like a lot of money but if you break it down and you can pay a little bit here and a little bit there it’s not that much. When I looked at it as $80 a month I realized it was a very manageable gift.”
— Heath Sterling
Irwin Family Fund
“One reason for starting the Irwin Family Fund was an interest to add funds directly to HD research. The 5-year donation goal was a stretch at the start, but since all the funds were going directly into our chosen area of interest, research, there was motivation to reach the goal years ahead of schedule.”
— Tim Irwin
Janice Johnson Family Fund
“Shortly after the loss of my mother to Huntington’s disease (HD) I thought about how I could honor her and her courageous fight with HD. I felt it was an honor to
dedicate the Family Fund in my mother’s name. Our fund has allowed others in our family to give in my mother’s name and give the opportunity of being a part of the cure and ultimately an end to Huntington’s disease. ”
— Tara Johnson
