How You Can Help
This website offers many exciting opportunities, which can be tailored to the unique interests and needs of each donor, to join with the Huntington Society of Canada to create a world free from Huntington disease.
The Huntington Society of Canada is the only national organization dedicated to HD and we strive to:
· Maximize the quality of life of people living with HD by delivering services
· Enable others to understand the disease;
· Further research to slow and prevent HD.
Sustain Families Today
Your gift will help sustain individuals and families living with Huntington disease today. HD is a severe and disabling disease. Through our Individual and Family Service program you can support about 2400 individuals including people diagnosed with HD, caregivers and family members, people at risk. We are HD specialists and champions and we work to ensure the medical and social service community throughout Canada serves people living with the disease. Your contributions also provide individual and group counseling to help people realize their potential and adjust to their losses, self-help support groups, special retreats, family information days, informative web sites, newsletters and email bulletins plus educational materials.
Find Treatments for Tomorrow
The Huntington Society of Canada is part of an exemplary international coalition of scientist and families working together to find treatments to slow or stop HD. Your gifts fuel the HD research campaign, which is making great strides forward and providing great hope for the future.
Your Society attracts and keeps scientists in the field of HD research by funding pre and post doctoral fellows and awarding prizes for excellence in HD research. You can also fund basic HD science by supporting our NAVIGATOR research program, which has advanced our knowledge of HD in several important areas. We also help donors to find HD research projects of special interests, and we provide opportunities to support special clinical trials for immediate symptomatic relief of HD while essential research continues on the basic science to ultimately prevent or slow the disease.
Simply by supporting HD research, donors can also contribute to other neurological disorders like Alzheimer, Parkinson or ALS. While these diseases involve different populations and brain cells, there are great similarities among the disease processes – they involve protein aggregation, cleavage and misfolding and damaged nerve cells. HD research explores neurodegenerative processes in a way other disorders cannot since we know with certainty who will get HD and roughly when; therefore, we can detect and understand the disease before symptoms appear.
The Huntington Society of Canada not only enables donors to make a profound difference in people’s lives for generations to come – we offer opportunities to get involved through our local Chapter volunteers groups and our local special events.
The Society has many thoughtful, unique ways to recognize donors for their contribution. We can also assist with your tax and estate planning.
