We wish to thank the CBC, Alison Myers and Ron and Kerry for the courageous and moving human interest story, broadcast on The Current on March 26, 2009, about how the lives of the members of one family have been forever changed by Huntington disease.  This documentary brings greater awareness of Huntington disease (HD) and hopefully a deeper understanding of this devastating disorder, which translates to additional support for families.

The symptoms of HD symptoms vary from person to person, and effects individuals and families in different ways. However, help and support is crucial for all families, as they deal with each progressive loss.

For those in need of support, the Huntington Society of Canada provides a network of social workers across the country to support families - they provide information, guidance, mutual support, counselling, and referral services for effected individual, caregivers, and people at risk, including children. In addition, our staff advocate for families and work with professionals to enable them to understand the disease and to support families, by offering a continuum of care.

The Huntington Society also funds vital research in the ongoing search for treatments. For information about Huntington disease and how you can help, or about the services available in your community, simply contact the Huntington Society of Canada at 1-800-998-7398 or info@huntingtonsociety.ca

UPDATE:
The CBC received so much feedback from the HD community that on Thursday, April 2, 2009, during the letters segment, “The Current” read some of those letters they received in response to the segment.
