Research Programs

The Huntington Society of Canada, since its inception, has supported multiple research programs.

NAVIGATOR
The NAVIGATOR Research Program has been running since 1994. This program supports senior researchers across Canada. This program supports basic scientific research of direct and immediate relevance to Huntington Disease in Canada with the aim of providing a platform for the future recruitment of outstanding investigators to HD research, to facilitate research collaboration nationally and internationally, and to support research that is relevant to other neurodegenerative disorders. The competition is run once per year. For more information click here

New Pathways for HD Research
A new program introduced in December 2007. The Huntington Society of Canada (HSC) is interested in fostering innovative lines of enquiry that will eventually lead to the next generation of targets for the treatment of Huntington disease (HD).

Laura's Hope Fund
The Laura's Hope Fund's goal is to advance research in Canada and internationally to accelerate the development and testing of potential new treatments for Huntington Disease. For more information click here

Huntington Study Group
This new partnership with the Huntington Study Group (HSG) will provide one or two substantial awards to ‘test experimental treatments that show promise of providing demonstrable symptomatic benefit for the cognitive (intellectual), motor, behavioral or weight maintenance problems facing patients with manifest HD. CIHR

In past years HSC ran the Landmark Graduate Award. HSC has ended this competition and will now partner with the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) to support pre and post-doctoral research. For more information click here

 

HSC Funded Research

The Huntington Society of Canada began its Research Programs in 1998. HSC has supported researchers across Canada through the NAVIGATOR Research program, the Landmark Graduate Award, the Laura's Hope Fund, and clinical research.
